Which types of insurance would form a basic level of cover for a small organization?

Public Liability

Public Liability Insurance is designed to cover you or your organisation should there be an accusation of injuring someone or causing damage to their property.

Public Liability might not be a legal requirement but it may be a requirement of a governing body, local authority or facility provider. Even if it is not compulsory we would strongly recommend Public Liability Insurance to all those involved in Dance and Leisure activities. Follow the link to read more about Public Liability.

Employers Liability

Employers Liability is one of the few classes of insurance that is compulsory by law (there are certain exceptions). Employees can include directors, part time workers and unpaid volunteers so most  dance and leisure organisations and businesses will require Employers Liability Insurance. Follow the link to read more about Employers Liability.

Directors, Committee Members & Officers Insurance

Committee Members Liability Insurance (also known as Directors & Officers or D&O Insurance) is designed to protect trustees, committee members and others in management positions should they be claimed against as individuals or if allegations are made against them personally.

If you are in a club management position you should seriously consider your personal liability and the consequences of not having the correct protection in place. Should you be an unpaid volunteer on the committee of a small club you might think there is no risk, but you would be wrong, you have some of the same responsibilities as a full time company director. Follow the link to read more about Directors, Committee Members & Officers insurance.

Buildings and Contents Insurance

If your organisation is struck by a disaster such as flood, theft or fire the result could be catastrophic, not only for your property but also for your organisation. An insurance policy for your buildings, contents, playing surfaces and other property will ensure your assets are protected and that in the event of the worst your property will be repaired or replaced and your organisation will survive. Follow the link to read more about Buildings and Contents Insurance.

Personal Accident Insurance

Personal Accident Insurance is designed to pay a financial benefit following an injury. The principle is that if you are injured and unable to work then a Personal Accident Insurance policy will continue to give you a weekly income or pay a lump sum if the injury is permanent or fatal. Some polices will also give separate benefits for broken bones, dental treatment, physio treatment, partial incapacity, illness and other misfortunes.

Personal accident insurance can be purchased by individuals or by organisations on behalf of their employees or members. Purchasing cover in bulk, known as a group policy, can significantly reduce the cost of cover. Follow the link to read more about Personal Accident Insurance
