Public Liability Insurance For Sports & Clubs

Public Liability Insurance is designed to offer cover should you be accused injuring someone or damaging their property. The claim could be made against an individual player, coach or member or against the club, team or governing body.

Public Liability insurance is not always a legal requirement but may be insisted upon by the governing body of a sport as part of their affiliation requirements. Also, many facility owners will not let you hire or use their facilities without Public Liability insurance and you should not assume that the facility owner’s public liability insurance extends to cover you as a user.

You should be aware that public liability insurance will not cover areas more appropriately covered by other classes of insurance such as Products Liability, Employers Liability, Personal Accident, Committee Members Liability, Legal Expenses or Professional Indemnity insurance.

Some governing bodies will provide Public Liability insurance to their affiliated clubs as part of their membership benefits but will expect clubs to make their own arrangements for other types of insurance.
