European Championships: not just about the athletes
As Team GB’s medal tally at the 2018 European Championship continues its exceptional rise, the focus is currently and quite rightly on the athletes themselves. To get there has taken dedication, perseverance and some serious levels of hard work most of us can’t even fathom.
Having said that, the hard work, perseverance and dedication is not just about the athletes – each of whom has a team behind them: supporting and directing their training, diet, health and wellbeing.
The heart of this team and this support is the coach. From Olympic, to European Championship, to county, to after-school club, whatever the level, it is the coach that makes things happen, that pushes just that little bit to help every participant learn, enjoy, grow and achieve.
Duncan Sutcliffe, director, Mann Broadbent, commented: “The athletes at the European Championships are showing how hard work can pay off but we don’t see the months and years of build-up with the coaching staff as it all comes down to the few minutes, even seconds, of competition. We’d like to take this opportunity to give sports coaches across the country, at every level, a big ‘shout out’ and thank you for all their hard work – today’s young child learning how to swim, is the Adam Peaty or Jess Learmonth of the future!”
